still sticking with verizon. verizon. more 4g lte coverage than all other networks combined. melissa: fled and deaths and destruction across the northeast. let's go to tom corbett who joins us with an update on the situation in his home state. thank you for joining us. can you give us an update how things are in your state? >> the eastern part of the station we're starting the recovery process, but the western part of this date, the storm still located there and working its way north and will go into new york so we are still watching some win, not nearly as bad as yesterday and the amount of rainfall particularly when it lands in new york because the susquehanna river through the harrisburg area, that is a water river basin that will bring down a lot of water so we will watch that closely. we think we are ok but you never know. ashley: you have a lot of shelters up and running including shelters that are providing help to residents of new jersey? >> that is right. new jersey make shelters available, two state system universities available, may not be needed to be used. chris

nyse and nasdaq have to make sure they get data in and out, have to assess the damage, if any, to the verizon lines. they need about 200 people on the floor, and getting the people there depends on having the bridges and tunnels open so that's why the news from scott is very important. carpooling lists are brought together to bring the people in, a very intricate plan and one big an issue how big a staff the brokerage firms will be able to staff, the morgan stanleys, the merrill lynches of the world, having their own meetings separately to determine who they can bring in as well. a very interesting day, a lot of of pressure on them to open the markets. >> and sort of lost in the conversations are the knights and exchange traders. do we have any idea what the situation of those guys is? they are in jersey city where way hard hit. >> out in the middle of the country, of course. all indications is they are planning to open as normal as usual. nyse in particular, a lot of people they want to open the floor with nasdaq as well because they are in new york city, and there's a question of personnel,

this is in a sense a verizon issue, got to make sure, and that's one of the things, probably the single most important thing right now. they have to be able to test and make sure they can get in and out all the data feeds. they have been testing the backup generators. they functioned beautifully overnight. you saw the red, white and blue at the entrance there with the columns working very well, fuel is there. they got to make sure that people can get there. hopefully, and there's some hopeful signs, that the brujs and tunnels will be open. again, they do not need the subways open. they have lists. they have about 200 people at the new york stock exchange for the floor to open, lists of how to carpool people in. any damage in to the facilities outside of the area that might be important, the building itself i am told is fine, but there may be some other outside buildings that may be important that they have to check out, and finally, in the event that there's an issue testing the backup plan. >> all right. with all that in mind we take to you new york city mayor mike bloomberg. >> hurric

but verizon was working. so you could get high speed internet. >> that defeats the purpose, you go to the hotel and it has no power. what floor were you on? >> 14th floor. but the operators did operate. i did walk up and down a couple times, but -- they had backup power. >> don't trust the backup power. >> and we had a fire alarm at 1:00 a.m., 12:30. so a long evening. >> hearing the trees all around and you don't know when one is -- last time one hit my house. >> i know. >> you worry about all the people that are out there. >> you worry about where you park your car. first i had them huddled in front toying and i'm like why am i putting them right next to each other? so then i spread them out. >> anyway, it is a situation we are still waiting to see how much damage is out there waiting for first light this morning to get a better assessment of things. when we come back -- >> did you hear what the hair tweeted? joe kernen's hair? joe kernen's hair one, sandy zero. should i retweet that? i might retweet that.
